Camp Dogwood: A Grief Camp for Children

As hard as it is for adults to face and understand death, it is more difficult for a child. Children have unique needs and special ways they grieve. Through art, music, horseback riding, swimming, rope-climbing and small group activities, children learn healthy ways to express and cope with feelings of loss.

Camp Dogwood is a free, three-day overnight grief camp for children who have completed kindergarten through seventh grade from Troup, Coweta, Heard, Meriwether and Harris counties who have experienced the loss of a loved one. This year’s camp will be held from Friday to Sunday, June 7 to 9, 2019. Created in 1997 as an outreach of West Georgia Hospice, it now serves 60 children each summer with the help of about 125 volunteers.

Camp Dogwood is held at Pineland Sheriff’s Camp, a beautiful, spacious, well-equipped facility is located on Young’s Mill Road about three miles outside of LaGrange. In a rustic outdoor setting, campers, through art, games and stories, will be helped to:

Campers also will enjoy fun activities such as swimming, fishing, horseback riding and more.
