The George E. Sims Nursing Scholarship is awarded each year to deserving nursing students. The purpose of the scholarship, funded by the Fuller E. Callaway Foundation and managed through the LaGrange-Troup County Hospital Authority, is two-fold. First, it enables Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center to maintain the highest quality of care by having well-educated, professional nurses on staff. Second, it is intended to assist individuals in attaining careers as registered nurses.
The scholarship is based on the applicant’s scholastic record, character, leadership qualities, participation in student and community activities, and personal interviews. The scholarship includes all costs associated with fulfilling the requirements of a nursing degree. In return, the recipient agrees to work at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center for up to three years after they graduate, depending upon the duration of the scholarship.
To be considered for this scholarship, the following is required:
• Completed application
• Recent photograph (passport type)
• Official transcripts from all high schools, colleges, or technical schools attended
• 3 Letters of Reference (one professional, one personal, and one instructor)
• Copy of TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) score. To register for this test and for more information on the
TEAS test dates, go to the ATI Testing site: atitesting.com.
• Letter of acceptance from an accredited school of nursing. If acceptance is pending, a written explanation must accompany your application form.
Prior to the scholarship award, applicants will need to pass a criminal background check.
If for any reason it is not possible for you to include the above information, a letter of explanation should be attached to the application.
