At WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, we know what it takes to provide quality stroke care. That's why we follow evidence-based best practices in caring for our stroke patients. And that is why our stroke program has been ranked in the top 10 percent of all U.S. hospitals for Medical Excellence.*
One of the components that has helped our stroke program rise to the top is teleneurology, a portable system used by a nurse that allows a neurologist to examine a stroke patient remotely when a neurologist is not present in the Emergency Department. We also have a designated CT scanner in our Emergency Department, which allows for a prompt diagnosis. In turn, that diagnosis enables our team to start administering the necessary clot-busting drugs that can stop or even reverse the effects of a stroke, if given within two hours of the onset of stroke symptoms.
West Georgia Medical Center has earned the Get With The Guidelines® — Stroke Gold Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. We have received awards for our stroke care for three consecutive years.
